transmission help
My shifter came apart on my 1981 F-150. I'm hoping someone can tell me how to get it back together without removing the transmission. It's a 4 speed overdrive hooked to a 300 six cylinder. Also it's a 4x4, if that helps any. The shifter bolts into the top of a cylinder shaped housing that bolts to the upper left side of the tranny. When I pulled the shifter out I found a piece about 3 inches long and a split pin laying in the bottom. It obviously slides on to a piece I can feel with my finger but cannot see. The split must hold the two together. My problem is I don't know how I'm going to get it back on and get the pin back in short of pulling the tranny and tearing it down. HELP! Dempsey
