This means that you should no start it till the light goes off correct? (duh). It does not get super cold here. Maybe a half a dozen times it gets below freezing but nothing super cold. I should wait for the light all the time during the winter right? But during the summer people have told me that I dont have to wait. Is that correct? is it bad if you forget to wait for the light?
The purpose of the light is to let you know the GlowPlugs are on. This heats the combustion chamber to assist in the initial burning of fuel when the engine is cold.
When the engine is warm and has been running, you may not have to wait but, I try to.
If you do not wait when the enigine and/or the weather is cold, the thing will prob just turn and turn and may not start.
After the engine starts, the glowplugs will go off anyway.(I think)
thats right.. they heat up the combustion chamber.. thats why after you drive it.. and shut it off.. and go to restart in minute.. it will hardly stay on.. cause its already hot.. in cold/damp weather it will take longer....
My mom recently took my 2002 Excursion PSD to go pick up some furniture , and came back and said my truck had a hard time starting.Well , i forgot to tell hre about the wait to start light. So if you hop in your truck, and just start cranking , it will start , it will just take awhile , and i am sure it can't be good cranking the motor over and over...The light is their for a reason.....
