I have the following trouble codes in memory (check engine light cleared after 2-3 engine cold warm cycles) and know what they are called but don't know what they mean. Can anyone help?
They are in order P1151, P0171, P0174.
Lack of upstream HO2S sensor and bank one and bank two lean. Just what caused these?
Thanks,
Mike
1998 Ranger XLT Supercab w/ 4.0L V6 and Automatic transmission.
Both banks running lean. Perhaps something wrong with fuel delivery system?
Could be, maybe a clogged fuel filter or something like that.
Could also be a dirty MAF sensor, as discussed in this TSB. Probably worth cleaning it, in any case, since it's cheap and easy: Cleaning the MAF Sensor
My hunch is that its related to an air/vacuum leak somewhere. Check all vacuum hoses and connections, look over the EGR assembly, make sure the PCV valve and grommet are seated properly, any possible place where unmetered air can be drawn in.
Also, the 4.0L is somewhat prone to developing intake gasket leaks which can cause lean conditions.
