Could somebody help me in replacing the Vacuum Modulator on my 95 Aerostar. I am sure that it needs replacing because the vacuum tube has alot of fluid in it,and shifts are changing. My Haynes manual does not cover changing this part out at all. I see that it is very close to exhaust.Does the exhaust need to be removed in order to change the modulator ? What holds the modulator to the trans ?
Also I read the post from last year about the modulator from Napa auto parts that is adjustable and the problems setting it. Would a part bought from Ford be a direct swap?
It's quite easy, but I suggest getting an adjustable model, since there were several versions used. The exhaust can stay, just make sure you let it sit overnight before you start. Have a (10mm I think) socket set with extensions handy (a 1/4 stubby would be ideal due to space considerations. It's just a single bolt holding a bracket down that keeps it in. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT LOSE THE PIN that's in the old modulator, you'll need it. The old one was pretty stuck, but some prying w/a screwdriver took it out quickly. Remove the pin, put it in the new one, lube it with transmission fluid, toss it back on!
