My 1994 explorer wont start, and I dont know what to do. I've read some stuff about the fuel pump reset button, and I think it will work. I just dont know where to find it. It turns over but doesn't spark. Please help me
I've been looking at the site and saw a lot of people seem to have related problems. After searching for a long time, I figured out I need to replace the EEC relay. I hope it will work efficiently, and I wont have to get it towed. If anyone thinks it is something else, I'm open to other suggestions. I dont know a lot about cars, and if this doesn't work, I dont know what I'll do.
Thanks a lot.
The reset switch is on the passenger's side, below your glove box. It's at the top of the carpet, just to the right of the transmission hump, or over by the passenger kick panel. It's a little black box (about the size of a pack of matches), and it's mounted to the firewall. If it tripped, a red button wil be visible on top. Just push the butoon back down to reset it.

Did you determine that you needed an EEC relay because other on this site have replaced their relay to fix a no-start, or did you get under the hood and determine that your EEC relay is stuck open. There are lots of things in addition to the EEC relay that can cause a no-start, and not all of them are part of the fuel system.
Can you hear the fuel pump run when you first turn the key on? One lead of the self-test connector ground the fuel pump relay. If you ground this lead, does the fuel pump run?
Thanks for your help. I got it started . I replaced the EEC relay and it started right up. But when I got it running, I noticed something was leaking under the vehicle . I couldn't see what it was leaking from. So, tomorrow, I'm going to take it to a shop to see if they can find where it is leaking from. If anybody has any ideas, go ahead and post it if you want. I'll take any suggestions. Thanks again.
hijacked thread: (sorry) wrong thread..thought it was the one I was subscribed to....
Well, when mine doesn't start, the fuel pump doesn't do the pre-charge of the fuel rail after the key is turned on. It's an intermittent problem. It will go for quite a while doing fine and then won't start for from hours to a day or so. Two Ford shops still haven't figured it out.
Yes. Real hard to figure out a pattern. The relay cost about $20 at the local parts place (Not Ford dealer). It worked OK for awhile and then the problem was there again. This time I replaced the ECM relay which is next to the fuel pump relay. That relay was about $15. Problem solved and fingers still crossed for luck.
