I have a wierd coolant leak somewhere under the upper intake. it comes and goes but i can't pin down the exact problem. Any ideas on what can be leaking under there before i pull the upper intake There is coolant just sitting on top of the motor please help!!!
thanks
What are the year, model and engine that you are working on? Most vehicles have a by-pass hose from the waterpump to the block, I have seen pin holes there spray coolant onto the intake before. Also, some have very small (1/4" diameter) coolant hoses going to the throttle body. Those have also been known to leak onto the intake.
If you have efi the leak is probably in the 1/4 in hose to the throttle body or in the fitting on the intake for the rad hose , it swivels and has a 0 ring, I've seen them leak intermittently.
sorry i guess vehicle info would help it is 90 f25o with a 351 the leak appeared to be underneath the upper intake somewhere i could not reach it with my hand. i think my best bet is to just pull the intake and look
That's strange. There are no water passage ways down into heads from the exhaust manifold. I can't imagine how water would end up there. It must be running there from somewhere else. Does this thing run OK? Maybe a cracked exhaust manifold. I had a leak once and it was really hard to find. Ended up cranking down on all radiator clamps and leak was gone.
