I have a 99 F-350 CC DRW. Lately my parking brake has been failing to hold the truck. I checked the pads and they are still in great shape. I have looked, but have failed to find an adjustment. Anyone know if there is one ?
on the back side of the backer plate, there is a rubber plug. pull this out ,and there is a star shaped dial in there that adlusts the rear pads. they are in a drum inside the rear rotor, the actual rear pads have nothing to do with the parking brake.
Don't be confused though, it's not the same setup as actuall drum brake's. It's hard to explain but I believe what 1RURALMAILMAN means is that there is a drum inside the rotor so backing up and hitting the brakes won't work like the drum system on the older vehicles. I haven't done it on my 99 yet so I'm kind of curious too. good luck
you are correct, there is a small drum brake syatem inside the rotor,so backing up and hitting the brake does nothing to adjust this.the star wheel that is in there does however work just like a drum brake adjuster. however do not be surprised if it is rusted up,and wont work,as it doesn't get used much.if it is you will have to remove the regular caliper, the retainer, and then the rotor to get to it.
