Ok - this is just too weird. I spent my early years just north & west of Tucson, AZ. I then spent a few years in NM before moving to MO.

Howdy all. Haven't finished reading the whole thing yet. Am in O'Fallon ( yes, the one on the Mo. side. We also gave one in Ill. ) Just west of St. Pete / St. Chas. My truck is in the shop at tech school for some work. May be back next month. Not a 4 wheeler, just an old 2wd beater I bought to haul stuff ( fix up & sell used mowers on the side ). Drive school bus for a living.

Grems, what part of Nuevo Mexico? I used to live in the big town of Alamogordo ( Home of Holloman Air Force Base ).

I spent about 8 years in Silver City, my grandmother & aunt lived in Las Cruces, and my first teaching job was in Eunice, NM. I am very familiar with the stretch of highway between Alamogordo & Cruces.

Was stationed at W.S.M.R. from Mar. '81 till my E.T.S. Dec. '82. Wife was living in Alamogordo when we met. Stayed there when I got out. Don't know Eunice, have a brother living in Deming.

Eunice is about 30 miles south of Hobbs, NM in the south east corner of the state. Trust me - you haven't missed anything by not seeing it.

Deming! Home of the Deming Duck races and Tortilla Tossing. I've been through Deming many times in my youth.

Eunice? Near Chaparral? Anthony? New Mexico / texass line ( even have a place there called Line Bar, at least used to be ).

North & East of Anthony (If I remember right). Hobbs is about 80 miles east of Carlsbad on 62/180. About 1 1/2 hours west of Odessa/Midland.

Okay, I've got an idea now. Thought I'd heard of Hobbs before, wasn't sure. Have been to Carlsbad, had to tow a broken down bus from there once. Interesting experience. Dragging this nice ( probably about 10,000 lb. bus behind you with no way to apply the brakes on going down some of those hills . Smoke on the water ( or at least the rear wheels ) .

I hear ya there. Most (if not all) of my towing nightmares occurred in the Land of Enchantment. I miss the mountains, but not enough to even consider moving back. People out here can't figure out why driving 54 (one way) miles to work doesn't even phase me - until I explain that I used to drive 2 hours just to find a decent restaurant & shopping.
