custom tailgate - 79 f250
I am in need of a new tailgate. I like the vented tailgates but seen too many fall apart. I saw a truck on the road with a custom gate. It was made of thick guage steel. It looked like a heavy duty grate molded into a tailgate. I was wondering if this was a custom gate someone made or is something for sale?

Sounds custom to me. Stop by your local welding shop and see what materials they have available - might be cheaper than you think to have them make you one. My brother made one out of 1" steel tubing spaced about 1" apart. It was very strong and he really like it - but it went with the truck...

On my old Chevy, I went the really cheap route and welded 2 lengths of 2" channel, one on each side of the bed vertically, just ahead of where the tailgate normally goes, and cut some 2x6 boards to length of tailgate and slid them down into the channel. That was my 'tailgate' for a long time and it worked very well and cost me practically nothing.
