hi. i have a 84 bronco II with a 77 frame 4x4. the truck is also lifted. i curently have a 302 with a c4. my question is can u switch to a big block with the current tranny. if not what can i do so i can accomadate a big block like a 460. also what is the difference between a c4 and a c6. thanx
The C6 Is a Ford Heavy Duty 3 speed automatic. The gear ratio is also identical to the C4 transmission. The C6 has a case length of 20”, which includes the bell housing. This transmission is used up to all three Ford block bolt patterns. The bell housing and case are intrical (one piece), so the C6 has 3 different casings. This transmission was used in vehicles 1968 to 1979. the c4 3 speed transmission was used in Ford cars & trucks 1964 to 1981. The transmission length is 11.180”, and with the bell housing measures 17.00”. This transmission was used up against small block Ford engines. This is the most popular transmission when converting to a Ford engine. The 1st gear ratio is 2.46:1; 2nd 1.46:1 and a 1:1 3rd gear ratio.
i think your main problem to worry about is how the hell you are going to fit that 460 into your bronco and support its weight. there are a lot of modifacitions if you want a 351 put in, let alone a 460

ok thanx for the info. my truck is lifted. 12" lift and 44" tires. so i have heavy duty springs in the front plus 3 shocks on each side, but as u say that might be too heavy. thanx
