Problem(?) with Transfer Case
I have a '92 F150 4x4 with a 4.9L, Mazda trans., and a BW manual transfer case (not sure what model). Before I got the truck, someone had put gear oil in the t-case. THey realized their mistake and replaced it with ATF. I only know they put the gear lube in because there was still a little left when I changed the fluid as part of my new owner maintenance. I put new ATF in it and drove it for a month to flush everything out and when I drained it it looked like metalflake red paint. I mean it is BAD - engines with no bearings left have less metal in the oil than what's in this stuff. The odd thing is that there is no vibration, works exactly as it should, makes no odd noises - how worried should I be? There's no way this is normal is it?

well if it were me id wait a few weeks and change it again.If you see metal flakes again when you change it ,then id have it looked it.but if its working as it should i wouldnt worry about it to much.just keep an eye on it.
