I just got home from a Easter weekend trip, and during our 600 mile trip the ABS light came on.
To give some background information on the vehicle:
I recently had the front rotors, callipers and brake hoses replaced. (And that is another story as you Ford 250/Excursion owners may know)The SUV is a 2000 V10 with 50,000 miles
The question is... is the ABS electronics probably bad or is there something else to check? Wheel sensors? I checked fuses. Also am I better off to go back to the dealer or can privite shops handle repairs?

Since a lot of work was recently done around the wheels, the possibility of a wheel sensor failure seems good. Unless you no longer trust them, take it back to the shop that did the original repairs. It's also possible that there is still air in the system. How's the brake pedal? Is it lower or softer than it was? If air has gotten into the ABS hydraulic control unit it might set the warning light off and can only be bled with use of a STAR or NGU(?) tester. You would probably have to visit a dealer for that but most other repairs could be undertaken by a qualified repair shop. Hope that helps.
Even though your vehicle is not under warranty the work performed on the brakes should be. Rather than guess take it back to them and get it fixed. I would guess it has something to do with the work they did.
I have had to have my rear wheel sensor replaced three times now. It has failed at the weirdest times. Twice just while driving and once when we braked. Ford says it is just one of those things. Peeves me off though.
