428 piston identification

I am going to update my 428 some and am trying to identify what pistons it has in it. The number cast into them is B174. I fairly certain these are badger pistons, but that isn't all I want to know. I am looking for specific data like compression height, dish depth, pin height, pin diameter, ring groove sizes, etc...... I would also like to know what other brand pistons the number I have will cross over to.

I have checked the Badger website, but the website is under construction. Any help will be appriciated.

Yes, that's a Badger piston but hold on.... it's a .040 over. 428's are really only good for .030 over, anything more is pushing it. If you need to bore I think you're stuck. CJ's can sometimes go .060 over but that pushing it too.

You are absolutely correct! The cylinder walls in my engine are possibly thin, but there is no need to bore any more than it is. The cylinders will be fine after honing since this engine hasn't been used much since it was rebuilt. I can tell you that if the cylinders were going to crack because they are too thin I would have found out already. Racing would have found a weak spot on the first day after the rebuild though.

The pistons I have now haven't held up that well. so I am using this opportunity to change a few things along with new pistons. I located replacement pistons from Badger. B174 is an old number. The new number is P174. I am not sure of the specs for this piston yet. I am going to check with a local machine shop for those and then decide whether or not to stay with that type. Forged pistons would be nice for this buildup, but since this engine isn't going to be doing any qualifying it should be fine. My budget is pretty slim too.

I am certain the problems I have experienced with the pistons I have now started years ago when the PCV hose disconnected at highway speeds. One piston (#8) was ruined pretty fast and I replaced it. Now it has happened again. This time the vacuum leak was the climate control. Having the timing set on the edge isn't helping either, so after this rebuild I am going to back the timing off a bit.

Anyway, any tips on this will be appriciated.
