i'd say get some flex like vacuum type tubing, fiond a size that'll fit your intake, vent it out the side, and get a peice of rigid, or keep the flex, and run it up the side. then take a round filter and fit it on top of the tube. thats my idea, never done it tho, just deamt it up now

its from a landrover dicovery, the second link even gives the parts number for it, they are about 300$ for the kit, then you have to mod it to fit the air box, but you have to admit, it sure looks bad *** on a for huh?

tupperware cake box, elephant trunk drain pipe, and a few tubes of silicone!
mine is coming in the near future.

or you could route some pvc pipe from the engine cmpt into the cab but that's a lot more permanent!

could also try dryer hose

or what about flexible exhaust pipe?

i dunno just throwing ideas out on the table

although i know the cake box works...i have seen it done. if i can get a pic of it i will.

ok take a round plastic tupperware cake box and cut a hole on the top or bottom (doesnt matter) the size of the top of your carb....then on the other side cut another hole the size of your pipe (w/e you use) and caulk/silicone the crap outta it! then just run the pipe into your cab.....voila! snorkel for a couple of bucks at the Dollar Tree.

3" pvc or exhaust tubing.
for the carb side, find a tall closed element air cleaner to attach the pipe to. like something off a big block truck.

Also check the thread "mud in the carb" which is only a couple pages back in this forum. It was suggested to me that I cut a hole in the firewall and then run a tube through and seal it. This could easily be done with an old school 'snout' type air filter assembly, turned with the snout facing straight back and inserted through the whole. As long as you don't have water coming over your dash, inside the vehicle, you'll be okay. There were some other good ideas there too but I think the firewall intake was the best I heard.

Geez, and I didnt think you guys would take me seriously because it involved cutting into your firewall. Anyways, yea, that is the sure fire best way to keep your intake charge clean. Even snorkles get coated in mud and their performance suffers.

Of course we take you seriously . . . it's just baby steps ya know. Couldn't bring myself to cut metal a few months back and now I'm getting all kinds of crazy ideas. I figure if anyone is going to bother running a fugly ol' snorkel up their pillar and cut a hole in the fender to run the intake then they shouldn't have a problem with a little hole in the firewall that no-one will see.

Btw, got my cowl induction scoop today. I forsee a weekend of fiberglass fun and then we'll see how much water gets in my carb.

Oh, one last thought, if you do run a standard snorkel like the LR type Idio posted turn your inlet backwards. Otherwise a giant spray of water and mud will dump right down it when you hit the water. Nothing like putting a friggin funnel over your intake.

im thinking that that idea of running it into the glove box is a good idea. then silicon the crap outta it were it goes through the fire wall. that might actually work. get some pvc pipe like 3 inch and run it in and put like a k&n cone filter on it.

I thought of running 2 pieces of flexible exhaust tubing out the sides of the stock air cleaner and under the cab. Connect those to PVC that turns out and up at the cab corners like stacks. Dual snorkles! Just maks sure you at least match the square inches of intake that you already have.

I eventually gave up on the snorkle idea and made my own cowl induction hood scoop and customized the stock air cleaner. It shows in the "mud in the carb" discussion.
