Exhaust upgrade

I have a 95 460 efi and would like to upgrade the exhaust system. It has a magna flow cat back exhaust system now but its not loud enough for my taste. I would like to put L&L headers on it, run true dual exhaust, with Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. I live in Cali and have a cat for smog reasons so who makes a good high flow cat? Is it legal to take the cat off and replace it with a high flow one? Also how would you run the exhaust? Two cats then two mufflers or one cat and two mufflers? Any help would be appreciated!

Flowmaster used to make a high-flow cat. I haven't looked in a while. A friend of mine had a '96 350 sittin' on 38's with dual 50 series from the cats, exhaling through dual 3" pipes out of the mufflers. It was pretty loud

Thanks threefiftyone! Do you remember where the pipes exited the truck?

Sounds good, I think I want 40 series though, just a little louder to **** off the neighbors and to put those ricers in there place with those stupid fart mufflers! I'm thinking I should run two cats with an H pipe huh?

There you go buddy! I've got a single 40 series dual out. It's only going out of 2 1/4" pipes, but it's still a Flowmaster

L&L's, hi-flow cats, 40 originals, 2.5" pipes, 3.5"-4" stainless tips... But they key of the tips is angle them to the corners of the rear bumper. Believe me when I tell you, it is right at the fart box car window level.. It will be alot louder than going out the back.. Later, Dan

I have L&L headers, no cat, 2.5" true duals with an H-pipe, and Flowmaster 50 series delta flows on my 460. I think it sounds awsome, It is quite while driving down the highway but when you give open the throttle it sounds very good and will definetly turn heads. If you don't use the truck for long distances or towing then I would go with the 40 series, but i think they could get annoying on long trips with a trailer. Hope this helps.

kevinrf250 you are right.. The 40's can get alittle annoying on long trips. If noise dosen't bother you, 40's are the way to go.

Cool guys thanks for the tips! I never really thought about the long trips and this is what I mainly use the truck for. Maybe I'll run the 50 series but use the electonically controlled waste gate and run straight pipes out the side so its right in there driver window! That would surely scare them! Don't think it would be legal in Cali but would be funny as hell!

Kevinrf250, are you satisfied with your L&L headers? I'm looking to get the same ones when I swap to an EFI motor. Did you get the L&L Y-pipe too? I can't seem to find much information on the Y-pipe.
Thanks.

I really like my L&L's they fit perfectly and are very high quality. I have not had to tighten a single header bolt since I put them on 20,000 miles ago. They are definetly worth the money. I didn't get a Y-pipe, I had true duals put on. There are pictures of them if you go to http://community.webshots.com/user/kevinrf250 this isn't a link so you will have to copy and paste it. hope this helps.
