[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Nov-02 AT 05:50 AM (EST)]Have a 83 F350 6.9 use it to haul wood and snow plow it almost seems like it does not fire on all cylinders somtimes then all of a sudden it well then it won,t. When you start it up it runs for about 5 sec then stalls somtimes it starts right back up somtimes it takes a little cranking somtimes it takes alot of cranking. When it does start the second time as soon as it starts it puffs out blue smoke. That is the only time it smokes. Not sure about fuel mileage because gas gage doesn,t work so I just fill it every couple hundred miles or so. Just filled her up.
Since you say that you only use the truck to haul wood and snow plow, it sounds like it isn't driven much. If that's the case, the fuel in your tank could be sitting there long enough to develop bacteria. If so, you'd have a lousy running truck until you get the "cooties" out of there. To do that, you'd need to add some biocide, available at many truck shops, truck stops, etc, and change your fuel filter pretty frequently until the crud is flushed through your system. I've never had this problem, but I think you'd need to change your fuel filter 2 or 3 times during the time it takes you to burn up the fuel in your tank. Someone else who had had this problem might just chime in and give you a more specific diagnosis.
Good luck. I hope this helps.
