I have a 76 F100 with a 302 v8. I plan on getting dual exhaust for it, do i need an h-pipe or x-pipe to balance the flow or is this a myth? Also what mufflers have the best bang for the buck. I can get a good deal on some unused Original Flowmaster 40 series, how good are they?
You dont NEED one, but its a good idea to have one. Mufflers....you will get hundreds of opinions. If you like the sound of 40 series, go with them. I dont like much of the Flowmaster line. Check out http://exhaustsoundclips.com/ford.html and see if there are any mufflers there you like.
pizalm: Are you using headers or keeping the cats?...ive got duals with flowmaster 40, i really like the sound....are u going to put on tips? or just turndowns....keep us informed, hope it turns out well
this is what iam going to be running on my new ride 72 f-100 4x4 on 76 f-150 frame and running gears if i can ever get my damn headers on.....hedman headers, true duals 2 1/2", flowmaster 40's, and 4"x18" tips, set up at a 45 deg. angle rear exit.....iam planning on it being fairly loud as well to sound good but i dont even know if thatll help ya but that is my plans and itll all be in affect as of monday when the shop can run my pipe so ill throw a post on here after its on and let ya know the results.
2.5" pipe is too big for 302 engine. It will actually hurt your low end torque and gas mileage. Too big for optimum exhaust velocity. 2.25" mandrel bent tubing would be the largest for a 302.
Kind of off topic, kind of not... I've got the 5.4L engine with 2.5" mandrel bent duals coming back... is that too big? I'm not sure what a 302 equates to in liters, I guess. What is a 5.4L?
You should be fine... almost all dual catbacks go with 2.5" piping. Not sure you'd feel a noticable difference with 2.25" going from the catback. A full exhaust on the otherhand... I'd go no larger than 2.25" piping. JMHO.
Hey Stevef100s, you sound like you really know your stuff. Do you think that 2" pipes would be too small for a 302 with, longtube headers, no cats and flowmaster mufflers- a true dual exhaust system?
