Hello I have a 2000 F250 PSD I have read on this board and I am dazzed and confussed.
I am having a problem with my Truck. I let my oil change go 15k (I know, I know) and I starting stalling loosing fuel milage. when I drove out of the drive way it felt like it lost power and I press the thoutle and it would clear up Last week I went to the ford house and checked the prices for a cmp sensor $220 bucks ERRRR.. When I left my truck stalled for about 45 mins. I finally started it back up and it spitted and sputtered I received the Service engine soon light. I got home and parked it for the weekend. Sunday I thought if I changed the oil and the fuel filter and the air filter it would be ok.. All of it was changed and it ran great no lights no nothing, even this morning.. Today I drove accross town and once I parked and did what I needed to get done I got back into the truck and backed out and it died I restarted it and the service engine soon light came back on. It died on me 5 times and back fired and sounded like it was not getting enough fuel
On short distance rides like to store and back doesnt seen to have any trouble, but when I drive accross town thats where I run into pronblems..
Could Bad fuel do this?? or a faulty CMP sensor..??
It sounds like the Cam position sensor to me. I bought mine from International for 98 dollars. Ford is at least double that!
If the service light is coming on then read the code. I bet it will pull an intermittent CPS code.
Thanks Scott for the reply. While I was on my way to Terrell it started acting up and the "Service engine soon" light went on so pulled into Auto Zone and they tested it and did give any codes..
The cps is a sinch to replace. From under neath the front of the truck, look up to find the timing indicator. That is the cps in disguise. You will need a 3/8 drive ratchet with a short extension and a 10mm socket. Unplug the wire to the cps, it has a clip to hold it together, also easy to remove and separate the plug from the cps. Remove the 10mm bolt from the cps and wiggle the cps out of the hole. Use oil or some other type lube to insert new one. When you insert the bolt it will line up the cps and the timing indicator thingy .. Good luck.
