Wisdom Teeth

How many of you have had to have your wisdom teeth removed? I had to have all 4 of mine out about a week and a half ago, but everything is going fine now. Practically everybody that I know has had problems with pain etc. Just wanted to see what your experiences are.

The dentist wants to take mine out because "they might cause problems later". Since I've never had so much as a cavity, I think I'll wait.

Mine are coming in.. and I need to see the dentist but my stepmom lost her job last month, so I am no longer insured! When I went in for my last cleaning my Dentist said that I would probably have room for them.. but I need to get that checked out so my teeth don't get all crooked if I don't have enough room..

I had only one in the top left part of my mouth. It was bleeding for a while and then swelled a few days later. Overall there was little or no pain.

had mine out 2 years ago. I opted to be put under rather then just local anesthetic. No pain at all with the teeth, but recovering from the gas was awful. The day after the surgery I felt as if id been run over, every inch of my body ached. Too painful to move, just stayed in bed all day.

Funny thing, I only had 2 wisdom teeth. Just the one on top, x-rays show theres nothing at all on the bottom. Guess im just dentally retarded.

They probably will give you problems later. I have always heard that the older you are when you have it done, the worse it is, I guess because you don't recover as quickly. It is just the cost that kills you, at least for me since we don't have dental insurance.

Had all four of mine out when I was 16. Just local anesthetic for me, seems like dentists down here don't like to use the gas. No pain the next day, I was just careful to eat soft foods for the first day. No problems at all from what I can remember. The upper right was a bugger to get out though. Doc spend a good 20 minutes working on that one tooth. The sutures drove me CRAZY!! I couldn't stop messing with them with my tongue, like an itch you quite can't scratch.

Yes this is what I also heard from my orthodonist. I had braces and he told me if I was to leave it in, it would eventually cause my teeth to shift out of their proper location.

I have all four of mine in. Dentist said its been along time since he's seen a a complete set of teeth without problem. Then he tells me he wants to take them out so I don't get any cavities back there!

Had all 4 yanked 2 days before a major ice storm where we lost power for 11 days. That wasn't cool.

I had only one problem when all 4 of mine were removed in college. No problem with pain from the teeth being pulled, and no problem with the anestesia (sp). In fact, I kind of enjoyed that. I was in and out of sleep for about 18 hours....longest rest I'd had in years! Anyway, the only issue I had was that my jaw was sore from having my mough held open VERY wide for an hour. Other than that, I was eating a pulled pork sandwhich the next day....Oh, almost forgot, when the surgeon removed the stitches, he cleaned out the socket with a water (I think) spray, and he hit dead square on the nerve. That hurt. I thought that I was going to pull the arms off the chair! All he said was "sorry".

Never had mine removed and I suspect now that it's a scam to make extra income for the dentist.

Remember when tonsils where removed almost every time?
