All 4 of my wiz-dumb teeth came in at the same time. Naturally, it all started on a Friday night. My face swelled up and felt like I'd been hit by a train. As it turned out, three of the danged things were impacted. Spent a miserable weekend before I got hold of my dentist, who finally Rx'd some pain meds and an antibiotic, then scheduled me for removal of the offending Lil buggers.
I remember sitting in the chair, getting a brace and an IV put on my left arm, getting fired up with about a Tanker full of Morphine....and then they stuck the gas mask in my face, saying "count back wards from 100". I think I made it to 98 as I felt the Morphine going up my arm and killing any trace or thought of pain.
I was awakened 4 hours later...still higher than a kite. My buddy kinda drug me down the hallway, me leaning up against the wall..bumping at every door, the hallway doing strange things that I don't think they were supposed to be doing. Halfway home, got sicker than the proverbial dog and next I remember waking up at home with a head ache worse than when my teeth were still there a hurting. If I'd ever in my life had any thoughts of becoming a Morphine junkie.. that day sure ended those thoughts!! You do not want a Morphine hangover...ever.
In any case.... a good day was not had by all. Now that Ive scared daylights outta those of you who are about to have your wisdom teeth removed... , have fun. That was a long time ago..I'm sure they do it much more painless now days.
I don't remember ever having any wisdom teeth, I guess yawl can tell that though.
My youngest daughter had to have hers cut out about 2 years ago and it was painful for her, and me and her mom.
They gave her laughing gas and me and mom had to put up with her after the gas wore off.
Tea bags helped. Donno why.
I had mine out last summer. I suggest getting them done as soon as you know they need to be done. When they started coming in, my regular teeth were pushed/moved to accomodate them. It happened really fast and now my teeth are a little crooked. I was completely knocked out during surgery (all 4 impacted). Mine weren't that bad, they didn't give me any major pain killers. I was in paid and bored off my mind for a few days. It stunk not being able to eat much, but overall it wasn't that bad.
Well, everyone in my family has there wisdom teeth. I think my dad got them taken out due to them getting rotten. I have all four of mine. If I remember right I think all four of them came in when I was either 14 or 15 years old. I never had any pain problems. Though, they did make my two front teeth slightly crooked. DOesnt bother me though. I figure as long as I dont haev any rotten teeth who cares how they are sitting there.
I too think the dentists suggest removing them so they cam make the money. Some of my buddies from work had them removed when they were in there teens. THey said they had to pay over $800 because the top ones had to be surgically removed. They had there gums cut and everything. Sounds like a waste to me!!!
Had mine cut out five-six years ago. Went under gas because they were too deep for dentist to pull. Did this on Thurs. AM, took long weekend. I remember sitting down in the chair, then waking up at home that evening. Mouth felt like a bulldozer had been driven through it, but just for a couple days. I was back at work Monday evening.
I had mine pulled out years ago and yes, your mouth will be sore. However, I'm sure my mouth was not as sore as my dads was many years ago. He waited on having his pulled; when the time came the roots had grown forward around the roots of the other teeth. They had to slice and dice the gums and break off chunks of roots on the wisdom teeth to remove them. Your dentists are right, don't put this one off forever. You may not like the experience when the time comes.
Had all 4 yanked 2 days before a major ice storm where we lost power for 11 days. That wasn't cool.
Yes it was BURRR...
Had mine out when I was 16. Dentist put me out, good thing he did to, he had to break the bottom two into 4 pieces to get them out. My jaw was sore for a month.. top two were not to bad I think, of coarse they could of been, but since the bottom two hurt SO bad maybe I just did not notice.
Had my bottom two wisdom teeth ripped out about 4 years ago. No big deal, I went to a baseball game the next day (enjoying lots of pain & anti-inflammitory pills) and had a couple of hotdogs and a coke. Vacationed in LA the next week...
The teeth were partially exposed, and the Doc said they'd probably get cavities at some point (too hard to brush), so better to get rid of them. I seem to remember him saying that if I waited too many more years they would become much harder to extract -- was about 33 at the time.
Oh yeah, the funnest part was working out a couple bits of shrapnel several days after the surgery...
I remember the first two I had taken out. Real old Army dentist. One shot per tooth. Shot lasted 1/2 hour, but the problem was it took him 3 hours to get the teeth out. Took two guys to hold me down with the dentist forcing my lower jaw down and yelling, "The more you fight me, the longer this will take!" I still remember the chisel.
When the third one came in I waited till my face was swollen and it hurt so bad I couldn't see before going in. I told the new dentist what happened last time and what I would do if it happened again. He looked at the old scars' and didn't seem too happy about what he saw. Procedure took about 45, was painless and I felt pretty good the next day - not 2 weeks later, like the first time.
The 4th one came in and gave me no problems. I regularly go to the dentist every 8 years or so, (no cavities in over 25 years.. To survive, you MUST brush and floss.) Still, when I go, I look for handy weapons and an escape route.
