i have a couple of buddies who rockcrawl hardcore and they chain their truck up to a tree with a 30' strap back up to the tree and floor it. they have done this until nothing breaks anymore

Can you say 5 point harness? Jason, you HAVE to get a video of this. I think that would be one of the funniest things ever. I've heard of people doing stuff like this but never seen it . . . crazy!
Jason has a pretty good point. Just build it up as it breaks. Also depends on how much $$ you've got to dump into it. But this is what you get when you ask a bunch of crazy offroaders how to build up a Bronco.
yea well this is my new thing. i usually run demolition derbys since i was 13, but now i got a 8month old little girl and a morgage and a wife and car payments. so ive decided to stick to mudding that way i have the same one for a while.
i pulled those ratty old bench seats out yesterday and replaced them with a nice set of buckets up front. i think i figured out hwo im goign to do my air cleaner.. i removed the heater and all the duct working and the switch last night. now i think ill run the pvc piping through the fan motor hole and silicon the crap outta it.i removed my plastic that goes around the gauges. im goign to make up a tin peice that goeas over it and the holes were the radio and heater control were. put im goign to mount a cone air cleaner in were the heater controls were. and make that peice of tin removeable. not sure hwo im goign to attach it to the carb yet. any ideas?
well I will give you my 2cents worth here alot of good ideas but I hear mudding not rock crawling as what you are doing so dump the doubler idea a np 205 transfer case is a good idea, but you will find the 203 if that is what is in it will work just fine, and I wouldn't replace until it breaks but alot of those broncos came with the 205 I wouldn't change the axles unless you start breaking them, and I hear alot of guys saying to switch to a d60--why? I have run d44s for several years in mud drag trucks and haven't broken one yet so I say if you are breaking them you probably don't have it set up right, and the 9in rear is plenty strong enough plus I know several guys racing with 514 big blocks and nitrous upto 350hp shot running d44 fronts without problems running 36in paddle wheels, and/or tractor tires so don't spend the money on that type of upgrade. as far as welding the spiders don't! yes it is cheap but mini spools only cost about $25 each, and will work better less work, and won't break loose like welded, I have run both ways, and got tired of rewelding my spiders plus ford 9in carriers are hard to weld, also most Broncos came with limited slip rears pull it out sell it for some outrages amount, and buy a full spool with the money.
Next tires what type of muddin are you talking about just playing or racing, and if racing are you looking to mud bog or fast track mud drags for bogs go with the biggest tire you can afford widder is better to float on top but that rig is HEAVY, weighs more than a long box pickup. if looking to mud drag 2 suggestions superswamper 34x9.50x15, or 38.5x11.00x15, or Bogger 35x10.50x15 the smaller ones will keep you in a lower class, and you won't have to run modified, and play with guys running big strokers, and nitrous, but in that type of racing wide tires will kill you only go as wide as needed to hold with the HP you are putting out. I gaurentee you if you come up against me with a set of 12.50 or widder tires I will beat you!, and I run the 34x9.50 swampers, although will probably have to switch to 35x1050 this year for the rear, and for the snorkle check out WWW.ramairbox.com they have an air cleaner snorkle setup that is cool.
as for the transfer case its got a 205. and im jsut going to play with it.
Twin stick that sukka! You'll love it! A doubler kit would be cool but fairly labor intensive. True, their more for the crawlers but if you have one you'll use it, especially in something like a Bronco. Still you'll find that twin sticking your 205 will make it far easier to manuver, especially if you do trails. It's a cheap mod and easy to do yourself.

You nailed this one. Many guys don't know why they get their tail handed to them at the drags, and why many of the "serious" mud draggers are running Q78s. Boggers are best for the mud bog or general comps, but not for mud drags. I run my "street tires" for mud bogging, (42" swampers) and most often I'm running against guys with 44" Boggers. This is typically the pro-modified class. Usually they don't have enough motor to make them work. The next class up, the open class, they usually run smaller cut tires.
