Changing PSD oil too often?

I was reading about the T444E diesel engine (AKA PSD) on the Navistar web site last night and I noticed that Navistar specifies oil changes every 10,000 miles or 350 hours, while Ford specifies 5,000 mile oil change intervals.

http://129.41.16.27/engine/engine.asp?model=t444e

At an average speed of only 40 MPH, 350 hours is 14,000 miles, even further yet.

Can Joe or anyone else explain why the difference between the Ford and Navistar oil change specifications?

The T444E holds more oil than the PSD.

I noticed that too, but 15 vs. 18 quarts makes that much difference???

i would imagine the warranty would stand up better if you followed the "written word". Keep written records and receipts too.
whatcha think?

My guess would be that International assumes use in a medium duty truck since they do not make pickups or light duty trucks. Bigger trucks do more start - run quite a while - stop than do trucks like mine so the oil change intervals are longer.

Not only that, they usually hold more oil than our pickups.

Changing PSD oil too often?

I have an easy solution to this question:-) Install a good by pass filtration system, ie. Filter Solutions system, filter down to 2.3 microns absolute, and spend Your time doing something else besides playing with 15 quarts of oil. A friend of mine has the next larger Navistar engine 466E, with this system. He changes the by pass filter every 15,000 miles, and the oil around 60,000 miles. I use the same system on MY PSD, and ISC 315 Cummins, it sure does a motor good, and saves a boo coo of time, and money I can get these systems at a deep discount, direct from the Manufacturer. :-) Maybe, I can these on Our Group Purchase.

I change mine at 5000 miles. I wouldn't go any further than that,
