Ihave a 92 Explorer 4wd with a blown trans Are all A4LD trans the same Can I just take the transfer case off mine and put it on a new one or are there different A4LD trans. If so how do I know its for a 4 wd Thanks chaspee

Technically, any A4LD will bolt up (you may have to swap extension housings if you start with a 2WD A4LD). Over it's years of production, however, it went through several upgrades and improvements.
'87 and earlier won't have the electronic 3-4 shift, so those will bolt up, but the '92 computer will get a little irritated that it can't control the 3-4 shift.
Pre-'91, the largest engine the A4LD saw was either the 2.9 or the 3.0, neither of which can generate the torque that the 4.0 does. When purchasing a used A4LD, be sure to get one that went behind a 4.0.
