what is the preferred or best programmer for a psd (1999) I am going to purchase one asap and would like some additional info. I have a 5.5 inch lift with 35 X 12.5 X 16.5 in addition to the power boost the speed correction is the main thing. An increase in mpg is a bonus but not the main reason I want it
First, let me say that I'm absolutely **** about mpg. When I got my Diablo Delta flip chip, I had one program installed that was intended to increase mpg. What I found was the the truck ran better, was much more driveable since the shift points were better placed, and it was generally more fun to drive, but the mpg didn't change. It didn't go up or down, so getting a chip for mpg gains would have left me disappointed. After running four different power levels of the same code, TDE0, that my mpg doesn't vary more than .5mpg regardless of program I run. I personally like the idea of being able to shift on the fly between programs, but guys that have programmers love them for the simplicity. There are pros and cons to both systems, and your personal preference will help you decide. This message board has a section entirely devoted to chips. Pour yourself a cold one, and start reading there. Good stuff.

If you can get diesel fuel with a c-tane rating of 45 or better you should get a significant mpg increase with the chip. Problem is most stations don't put the rating on the pumps because unlike gasoline they aren't required to. Give that a try and let us know.
I would have got the flip chip but they didn't make one for my year/model, so I went with the super tuner - not disappointed, EASY to use no installation, but you can't switch on the fly...
