Bed extender

Does anybody use their bed extender or was it a waste of money?

I've had my truck since mid-October and I haven't needed it yet. But that's the winter months. I expect to use it between now and next October, for sure.

I put some 12' lumber in through the bed extender (at an angle) and made it home with
out tie downs. Laying flat, the lumber would have slid out. I also carried a hutch in the back and had to remove the extender. Some +'s some -'s.

I think I"m going to get it since it acts as a nice organzier - keeping the smaller cargo from flying to the back of the bed forcing me to crawl after it. I think it will more than pay for itself during bowling season ;-)

It acts as a bed divider when its folded in, keeping stuff from sliding around the bed. I folded it out yesterday to carry a 78" screen door since my bed is only 5 1/2 '.

FYI...I keep seeing them on eBay and I for one am not opposed to a used one. Of course how used could it be due to the truck style being brand new. I have ran across a few, but I'm patient enough to catch one for around $100 someday. $300 + is a little to steep for my wallet. I'd rather spend it on other things for the truck for now.

If you do scope out eBay to save some $$$ I would caution you to ask them questions if it does not specifically state that they are the new body style in the description. I have caused several people to add revisions to their descriptions because of this questioning.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Thumbs down Bed extender from 1991 F-150 for sale....LOL

My bed extender came in handy but was usually removed cause it was in the way for my wheel chair when not deployed and in use. We stored it and forgot it when we traded in the truck.

I now have a 1996 Bronco in place of the Truck and my wife has a new Dodge Intrepid we traded it in on.

Unless someone knows of a kit and how to adapt the extender for use in a 1996 Bronco I would love to sell mine - How does fifty bucks sound. Of course one would have to purchase the mounting hardware if their truck came without it, eh?

I use it to tie my dog to it and keep his butt in the bed of the truck. He jumped out before and $600 later with a broken leg. Darn Lab's.

I have hauled stuff back from my mom's, 475 miles away, and it was well worth the money each haul. Without it I could not have haul as much stuff. With the 5.5' bed I would not be without one! Its easy to remove when you don't need it also.

Heads UP!

F150 TEXAN - re-read my post and note I would take fifty plus shipping charges for my bed xtender however I am seeking to find out if it will fit in a 1996 Bronco first... I miss it...LOL

E-mail privelidges are limited to members fifteen days old or more and I just started a couple days ago.

You may e-mail me at 19jimbo14@msn.com if you are serious. Make me a reasonable offer above 50 and add freight charges and I would gladly send it to you but how would I package it?

Jimbo

As others have written, the best thing the bed extender does is keep things like buckets, ice chests, golf clubs/bags, and the like from sliding around the bed. Whenever I need to haul something in the bed, I usually end up taking it out. It's probably something you could live without but it does come in handy on occasion.
