Love my v10 wouldn't give it up for gas prices ... if you can't afford it why buy it? Besides I have a 4 banger Honda thats takes the daily beating of highway traffic , door dings from careless a-holes , and the daily grind of driving around downtown LA . I work with my car but play in my truck

Exactly- we bought it to drive, not to save money on. I have a CBR as well and the wife-a TDI Jetta that gets 40MPG. The bike gets 40 as well. So, on the average, our fleet gets almost 30 MPG. I never hesitate to take the X and never will. In fact, as soon as I get an insurance setlement, I am making the X less economical with tires and 4-6inches lift. After that, I plan to park on top of the tree-huggers who hate it. Just the other day, as I was passing a tree hugger (bumper sticker-self pro-claimed), she flipped me off then got behind me. I went to stop at the light and she just barely bumped me and her insurance company paid me 580 for a new bumper!
SWEET!!!!
Drive on!

That is funny!! How much damage to her vehicle?!? Destroyed the front hood? I hate tailgaters!!

As to the poll, I didn't buy my SD SC for it's gas mileage. I had some moron at a gas station tell me I was stupid for buying my truck. Then I asked him how many driveways can he plow with his car? None. Can you tow a car on a trailer with his car? No. How many loads of gravel or mulch can he haul? None. Then he tries to be smart and says that he can carry five adults in his car. I laugh and say I can carry six!! He says well his car still gets better gas mileage. I say yeah, but which is the more capable vehicle? Enough said.

Or they were ex-rental units and fleet vehicles. Hertz and others rent gas-powered Excursions but not diesels.

Hey, Ronin007
Next time, tell the guy at the pump, that yours can carry over 20 passengers, but some of them gotta ride in the back.

I've seen a lot of the 15-passenger E350's for sale used, 20K-30K miles, 2 years old. V10.

Typical two-year lease with 12-15K miles per year? If it is a fleet vehicle, then why the low mileage?

As to getting rid of the V10 because of the gas prices, NEVER!

The V8 doesn't get much better. My '97 Cougar with a 4.6L gets around 24MPG on the highway, but only 10 stop-and-go. I can baby my V10 and get 10MPG stop-and-go...

My '89 Honda NX650 Enduro gets only around 35MPG on the highway. My V10 gets around 15. I used to have Triumph TR7's (two-door 2000lbs car w/2.0L four-banger from '75-'81), they got MAYBE 25MPG on the highway. I'm used to paying for gas... I've never had a super-econo-box so with the V10, for what it is, it's probably the MOST efficient vehicle, pound-for-pound, I've ever had!

Haven't worked it out for myself, but they say, with inflation, today's gas prices are the lowest in decades. So it goes up 10%, what's the big deal? It'll come back down, eventually, or maybe not.

The big problem is the effect petroleum prices have on industry. Increase the cost of anything that goes into manufacturing, and it's amazing to see how small of a profit margin some of these corporations have ... especially after the exec's empty the cash register

Yeah I thought about rubbing it in more, but he got the point. People are so stupid in what they say sometimes. Another time I was out plowing and went to get gas. A guy was on the other side filling up his Dodge plow truck and lady in a minivan stops and yells at both of us saying we are supporting terrorism with our gas guzzling trucks and takes off before we can say anything. He laughs and says she doesn't know who she is talking to. I ask him what he means. Turns out he is a DOT plow truck driver and he plows the road she lives on. He promised me he would plow in her driveway every chance he gets!!

They could be ex-rentals. There are quite a few E350s available for rent just right here on this island.

Fleet leases usually doesn't have mileage restrictions like a consumer lease.

I know all about that! I have a Ford Red Carpet lease, unlimited mileage, 4-years, about a $9K buyout at the end. Not bad, when thecompany I work for is picking up the tab in the meantime.

Of course, I've had it two years, and only put 15K on it so far

So these tree hugging SUV haters really exist? I thought it was just a myth. I live in SE Texas, and everyone has an SUV or a CC Super Duty. I was talking to a friend of mine today who drives a Dodge Neon as his "work" car. He told me that someone from Caneyhead (pop. 76 ) told him that if they saw him driving that thing up there, he was likely to get his *** whooped (you gotta have a jacked up 4WD up there, or you're not a man).

For the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone would be concerned about what I drive. I've got far too much going on in my life to worry about what someone else is driving. The post about the tree hugging flipper offer having to buy a bumper really made my day. I would have been laughing too hard to get her insurance information.

As far as the poll... Nope. Not selling my truck. I've been on the same tank of gas now for around six months. That's not too bad.

BTW, I'm wanting a 4.56 gearset so I can burn gas even faster but all I can find on the net are ones for the 10.25" Sterlings. Am I missing something? Anyone here been down the road I'm on?

Go to www.google.com - search for "dana 80 gears" - the FIRST result has 4.56's...

I'm assuming you have 4.30's already? Is 4.55 really going to be a big enough jump for you? You might be more intestested in 4.88's...

Yeah, the Danas are no problem either. I should have clarified more...

I've got the 10.5" Sterling with 3.73s. It's 2WD with 32" tires. I get all kinds of hits for stuff for the 10.25", but very little for the 10.5". The only 4.56 I've been able to locate comes from Ford Racing. I don't necessarily object to Ford gears, but I had hoped to have a few different manufacturers to compare.

I feel a little stupid, like I'm missing something. I know there are lots of the 10.5 Sterlings out there - I think they've been using them since '97 - so why can't I find them?

How about posing the question back to you Toreador Diesel. If and when gas prices hit $3.00 a gallon, what will diesel cost? Would you give up your PSD for a Toy? Here its just about the same, and most of the time more (Long Island: $1.83 and $1.89). Its a mute point with the price of fuel. Everyone pays respectfully with a large F series truck. IF, Diesel engines were getting 20 in the city and 30 on the highway, everyone would be buying a diesel. But they are not, along with all the horror stories you read on the 6.0 threads, Im glad I have my V10. However, being a loyal Ford owner, I'll stick with either the F250 or 350 series be it gas or diesel. Thanks, Tedmeister

Out of the shadows......

I've been lurking in the shadows because I didn't want to interrupt the flow of things. But since you asked, no; I would never ever consider selling my X if diesel prices ever got to $3.00 a gallon. I could never bring myslef to buy a ricer or some other kind of cheaply built car. I'm a very tall person and I need plenty of room for myself and the family. Besides, the money I spend on that car could buy the X quite a few tankfuls. So it's pointless. When or if it does hit $3.00 (lets pray that it doesn't! ) the X will more than likely be paid off. So it would be a whole lot more affordable than it is now. I know it's easier said than done, but if it came down to it the X would still be on the road. Finally, based on what I've read and seen on the poll, alot of you feel the same way.
