Question distributor

Ok,I took a light to my trucks engine today(You guys in the 80-86 and 73-79 boards will remember) and found the cam gear is ok.There is a small chunk missing dead center on one tool(about 1/16" wide and deep) so I am gonna put a new gear on my distributor and sell this thing before it blows up again.I was wondering a couple things. Will that tinny ding matter much?Didn't deform the gear any.And how do I replace the gear on the distributor?Drill out the roll pin and just slide it off,Slide on new one and put another roll pin in?Not sure on the distributor but it is old Breaker points and the engine casting code shows a 79 engine. This thing was truely a cobbled together beast.Maybe someone around here need a decent beater other than me.

If you were to keep the engine, I would replace the cam. I wouldn't take any chances with a chipped gear. It isn't very hard to do. It isn't cool to sell trouble to people. Bad Karma. To replace the distributor gear, don't drill the roll pin. Use a small punch to drive it out with a hammer. Lay the distributor shaft across a block of 2x4 or similar wood to support it. The gear may be a little tight on the shaft, but it'll come off once you remove the pin. To get the pin back in, you may have to grind a little bevel on the end to get it started.
