I have no visual inspection in my area. If I buy a non EGR intake can I rip off all this EGR garbage? is there anything I need to know in the process? What can go and what has to stay?
Its an 82 f150 4x4 with an automatic mated to a 302
The main purpose of the EGR is to reduce combustion temperatures, for reduced nitrous oxide emissions. Reducing combustion temperatures also helps to minimize "pinging".
I understand, and thanks for the reply. But I got a swingin deal on a performer non-egr intake, so I jumped on it figuring if it didnt work I could sell it.....whats involved in making it work is what Im after.
Im not worried about pinging, and the one last emissions test this has to go through in two years should be relatively easy to pass, its just a sniffer test
Taking the EGR off will cause your carb to need rejetting as it is now too rich. It will also affect the O2 sensor. The readings the O2 sensor sends may cause your engine's performance to drop.
Emission controls on later model vehicles are tightly integrated into all engine systems. Removing them is not recommended unless you know how to reprogram chips to compensate.
