i see more girls walking around with pracitaly no clothes on then i can ever remeber before. in my opion its just too trashy i guess they think that guys are impressed with it but not I! in my old school you would get suspended for a 3 days if you didnt have your shirt tucked in and didnt look just right, but the girls got to walk around with the trashist clothes youve ever seen! anyway its because of our pop culture in the states here, if you think about it America really doseant have any kind of culture to speak of except maybe rap music and TV. so thats where it comes from its popular in our society i guess so thats why it happens.
FERacing66, I agree with you upuntil the point where you say America has no culture besides rap music and t.v. America is full of culure, from the things we do to the lives we live. Not everyone lives on rap music and t.v. And that isnt all culture is made of. Beliefs are a huge part of a person or groups culture, and when it comes to that, America is more diverse than anywhere else in the free world. I know it is taking away from the meaning of this thread, but in english we studied culture for about 3 months, and it is a pretty touchy subject for me.
I recently wrote a paper for my high school senior english class on the moral decline of society. It was a sort of analysis paper. Anyway, I found a FANTASTIC link when researching:
It is all about what you're writing on, and how advertisers sell sex to kids in their clothing. I'm sure it will help you a bunch if you're still writing your paper - haven't read through all the posts so I'm not sure. There is a Part 2 to it also, linked at the bottom of the page. Hope this helps.
I wrote a paper in college about advertising techniques aimed towards the youths of America. My advice to you would be to watch shows that are targeting that age group. Not the show itself but the commercials that air during that time slot. You will definately notice a trend. for example, Sat and Sun morning cartoons are filled with ads for food (usually filled with sugar), whether it be cereal, drinks, candy, etc.
Just look at MTV. People think it's about Music... it used to be. Now it's all about sex and targeting youth. Not just the commercials though, the shows do it too. The only real show it has about music is Total Request Live, where they play the top ten requested music videos - but those are all full of sex too.
Im probably the wrong person to ask because i have a double standard which could be argued to death here, and most of you would prolly get this into a heated debate not seen since the closure of the pig pen but here goes anyway...
First off im a 39 year old man with a 16 year old daughter. Im what you would call red blooded and normal and i enjoy looking at the female of our species in all her glory. If a woman is advertising of course im gonna look at whatever skin she is flashing.I do not allow my daughter to wear clothes that are what I consider to be too revealing or too sexy. I expect my daughter to carry herself with respect and dignity and part of that respect ( for herself and her name) dictates that she not wear clothes that I as her father find too sexy or too revealing for my tastes. Now if any other female decides to wear such things thats cool i dont care and heck if half a boob is hanging out cool... as long as it isnt my daughter.
I dont care how people try to sugar coat things but in life there IS a double standard..I know that if i see a woman dressed in clothes that are too revealing most people i know would tend to classify her as "loose" or "risque" at first look. Now that opinion may change when you get to know that person, but the first impression is that they are of lesser moral values . Like it or not people do tend to stereotype others at first impression, and that first impression is usually what people base their dealing with someone on..Again after getting to know someone your opinion may change, but the vast amount of people you just get that one impression and thats it. Case in point is the guy who started the thread about long hair how many of us who disagree with my opinion of the way a girl dresses would discriminate against someone who they were hiring for an office position if the prospective hiree had long hair or a long beard etc...
In short i expect any female who is in my presence to be a lady and carry herself as such, which includes deressing as such.
This trend is everywhere. At my school, the freshman girls are more "active" than the senior girls. They also dress more inappropriate as well.
One thing I can't stand is the ball jersey skirts that go just below their behinds.
Another thing, the AF thing is all over my school too, it's the "cool" thing to wear. Most all of the shirts I see people wear are sexually oriented, with puns definitely intended on them. Myself, I have only stepped foot in a AF store once, I was in there for all of 30 seconds and walked out, because I was so disgusted at what they market and sell.
The mentality of those kinds of people is that if you aren't wearing that brand, then you're "poor" or "not cool". I see kids spend down to their last dime to buy those stupid themed shirts.
I do not know if it is a money thing or what. Sometimes I think the clothes are meant to show status or something. However, most of them use their parent's credit cards to buy most of them. There is a group of girls at school who I have NEVER seen wear the same shirt twice, at all.
I wear mostly Carhartt and Wrangler stuff.
Funny thing, my Carhartt jeans cost more, and I'm still viewed as "not cool".
I hold a high respect for girls, ladies, and women alike, but if I am disrespected by one, then I can't help but think negative about her.
I have 3 words for those who don't like what I wear, how I handle myself, or how I treat others, and I bet all of you know what they are. No need to even mention them.

Hi everybody-
I was wondering if y'all noticed how many little girls are walking around wearing clothes that are WAY too old for them.
here's a link that i'm using for my paper: Thanks- Leah
Lets see, as a teacher I have sent about three to five for dress code violations EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is getting way to out of hand
Well I remember back in the day with Gibaux's (sp?) and Filas but those where strictly a status symvol and how much money you had....I didnt wear them, but if thsoe kids only knew. :P Oh well. haha I think I owned one pair of Filas and that was my 5/6/7/8/9 grade years (yes I had to have them last for 5 years of P.E.) And I eventually got 2 pairs of JNCOs in high school.....
this new stuff though, along with the same 'status/money' symbol is also tryin to sell sex.
The old ones where not, or no wehre near tho this extent, or perhaps they where and I was just to sheltered to realize it....
I agree with the statement that young kids are dressing too "provokadive" (sp?) for their age. Unfortionatly, you can no longer walk around the mall without seeing a girl that is presumably 18+ only to find out that she is actually 14 or 15. Not to mention the new thing with all the girls letting their underwear hang out the back of their pants. But, I cannot blame them, unfortionatly, sex sales, and at that age, they are trying the "sale themselves" (figurtivly speaking ofcourse) to meet guys. Shame. But, this is the current culture we live in, we like to push the edge.
Stan
P.S. Congratulations on being a Jr. in college at such a young age, I was quite surprised to learn that you are only 18. Kudo's to you....
Thanks for all the input, you've given me a little more insight... if only you guys could write the other five pages for me!
Traxxis- I did the Running Start Program my Junior and Senior years, so instead of going to classes at my high school, I took classes at our local community college and graduated with a high school diploma and an Associates degree at the same time. And the best part about it all is that state funds pay your tuition! I think I only spent $1000-$2000 dollars to get my degree, because you are required to pay for all your books and fees. I do on the other hand, have to take an extra semester here at Wazzu, because the AAS degree only covers GERs when you transfer.. oh well.. I'm going to have my bachelor's degree before I'm 20
Just a follow-up on this- I got my paper back last night at my final- 100% WOOHOO! My professor complimented me when she gave it back too Needless to say, I'm thrilled.. especially since I'll be getting around a 3.8 this semester!
