I know this exhaust thing is brought up alot, but I cant make up my mind. I have been looking at some systems, I now have the factory set for my diesel now and am thinking about putting a 4" tailpipe with a 5" tip. Does anyone have this, I need opinions on how they last and what kind of kick --- sound they make(if any). It would be greatly appreciatted!
haha, i replied to my own post. Anyway I wanted to add that I added a k&n filter, i cant tell any difference, so i figured it needed some help by letting the pressure out faster, so maybe with the 4" tailpipe
A diesel requires low backpressure for it to produce more power. So the larger you go the better. I run a 1991 as you can tell from my sig. it has no muffler and it loud, but only during hard pulls. Some of the members in FOKISD has lost the cats and mufflers on their newer PSD's and they sound the same as the Enterprise under accel. I guess it depends on your ear as to the acceptable level. When I get on it in the Enterprise you can tell, because there's not hiding the fact.
Ditch the K&N and get the Tymar setup. It uses a Donaldson filter that filters at 99.9% efficiency as opposed to the 97% that K&N filters. It also flows 33% more air.
Do a search on the website and you'll hear the testimonies. It's the best filter setup available for our trucks.
K&N isnt all that folks think it is. I've been terribly disapointed with them for years and wont install another of their filters on anything. I got a TYMAR set up on my truck and I'm even building a copy-cat for my lil Jeep.
thanks guys! i am really dissapointed in my k&n too! i cant tell anything. i may get the 4" tail pipe and the other thing, just have to think about it some more!
The biggest difference a higher flow filter makes for a diesel is cooler EGTs. With a diesel more fuel equals more power (and you need the exhaust changes to get the turbo spooling up more efficiently). An intake does best with a chip/downpipe combo because of this.
