Does anyone know of a company or person that makes up stand alone wiring harnesses for the 460 EFI. I know lots make them for other motors like the 5.0 and 5.8. Which lookin at mustangs there r a lot fewer wires. This may sound dum. But here it is. Why couldnt a person put a 5.0/5.7 engine wiring harness and computer on a 460. Use the 460 injectors and etc. Just have the 5.0 computer reprogramed. The do it on 5.0 small blocks ,that r bored out and stroked over 408 cubic inch. Just let the computer think its controling a 460 EFI cubic inch small block. Put in the cubic inch, cam size and etc. Even type of trans and rear. I have seen the wireing harnesses for 5.0s they look so simple. Like from Painless Wiring.
what you are suggesting may be possible, but would involve lots of work with someone very familiar with tuning and modifying the EEC_IV computers. but if you were wanting to go mass air, this might be your best bet. but very pricey.
why not just use a stock 460 computer? then you only need junk yard parts, not some fancy reprogrammer that will never be able to get the driveability of the ford tuned computer.
maybe a little more info on what exactly you are trying to do ???
built4wheeling,here is what I have. I have a wore out 5.0 in a ranger. I was thinking about two options, which I am not sure which would be the best. No.1 Build a 5.8 that I have. By with a 408 stroker kit, cam, heads and etc. Or build a 460, maybe bore it out 40,ad a cam, redue the ford heads, etc. I know the 460 will ad about 200lb to my frontend, but it may cost less, and beable to get more driveable torque and horsepower out of it. Im not looking to sink a bank roll in to it. Just a good strong play toy
If your 5.0L harness and ECM is MAP based, then you have no mechanical problems that I can think of in using the 5.0L harness and computer.
But you will have to up the size of the injectors, and adjust the fuel tables in the EEC computer. Tweecer and other such software can help you do this.
If your existing harness is MAF, you're going to need a larger MAF as there is no way a 5.0L MAF is large enough to accurately measure the breathing requirements of a 460. You're going to be at the top range of the 5.0L MAF most of the time.
But the wiring harness will work, assuming it fits around the engine. Might have to reroute a few wires here and there but a harness is a harness.
Heck, my 500cid stroker (based on a 460) is about to receive a reworked GM harness. parts are parts!
I am running a 460 in my Bronco that came with a 5L MAF EFI. Currently I run the 5L injectors and MAF. The MAF tops out at 4500 RPM @ WOT. The C-6 currently shifts at 4500RPM @ WOT. I will change to 30#injectors and 80mm MAF this spring.
I run a Tweecer and have made about 10 byte changes to the eec code. Mostly are for missing emmisions controls. There are a few I had to change to get the idle to be stable(very tricky!). None of the changes were documented anywhere I could find.
The stock eec computer SB fine if you don't mod the engine much.
