engine still knocking
engine still knocking
I have a 96 F250 about a month ago i posted a new thread about my engine ticking and some guys suggested that i had a cracked manifold i have checked out bouth sides and that aint it. I have pulled the intake and intalled new roller lifters and pushrods. The oil pan was off and i installed a new oil pump all the rods were tight everthing seemed ok the motor was really clean. The thing ticks really loud when its been sitting for a couple hours but after it runs for about a minute it quits it does that every time it cold at start up then when u driving it u can hear a slight tick every know and then. It don't do it every time u drive it but it comes and goes. I m really hoping someone has had the same problem i tired of figting it its been to every shop around hear and i hear something different every where i go , they tell me its a wrist pin, cracked piston skirt, fuel injestors something wrong with the timing any advice would be appreciated.
Are you sure it not coming from any of the accessories? A guy put 20 grand on his camero had a ticking for the longest time, took it to 10 different shops not one of them could find it, he came into the shop I used to work at (we had just opened) no one could find it, owner walks in takes a look says its the belt tensioner, sure enough it was it, it only cost the guy the new tensioner he was so happy he took a handful of flyers to pass out at the track lol
Yes i sure its not i took off the belt off the front of the motor then i started it it still ticks. My local ford dealer thinks it is in the valvetrain but it has new lifters and pushrods all the rocker arms and valve springs look ok.
I have checked both manifolds pulled them off and chevked em out. When u started it it quits ticking before the motor warms up it'll tick for about 15 to 20 seconds when cold then it'll come and go while u driving it.
Saw a post here recently where somebody had a ticking lifter. He put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the crankcase and cured it. Might be worth a try.

My 460 did the same thing, It had a cracked #7 Piston, Sometimes it ticked and sometimes it didnt, More so when cold. Pull each spark plug off one at a time and drive it around. Thats how I found it was the #7
