Fords are first of course...but here is a chebby question...lol...Is it possible to put a power glide transmission in a 65 chebby truck....It is a 283 c.i. engine and has a stock four speed....It has been mostly restored and is in great shape....except for the old granny tranny....everyone loves it....Help if you can.......!
i have a 67 327 mated to a powerglide, i think the 283, 327, 305 and 250 Iline 6cyl. have the same bolt pattern. put the two bell house together, or measure the distance between the two top housing bolts.

I don't know...it is not my truck...she is a little slow on the takeoff with this granny tranny...This is an especially sharp old 65, all the rust has been cut out, and fenders have been replaced...I guess he just wants to update it some...The old engine runs good...(would like to have a truckload of 283's) ....Had one in a 59 Impala, that no one could touch until the 327 appeared on the scene...anyway...thanks for your response...Nomadic
I don't remember on a 283, but the carb might be different for the automatic...dashpot, kickdown linkage, etc. Also you have to come up with some kind of shift lever and get rid of the clutch pedal..and don't forget a trans cooler. IMO, you would be mutch better off with a Turbo 350 or 400.

definatly!!
There is nothing worse then towing or just driving in town with a two speed auto like a powerglide or a turbine-300 (aka jetaway, GM corporate version of the 2-speed)
low first gear is great untill it shifts into direct drive. It allways seems that the engine is winding to get out of 1st, then is bogs when it shifts into high.
They make exellent dragstrip transmissions though.
