I just aquired 4 950R16.5 tires mounted on 8 hole Ford wheels. I want to use them on a project that is still in the planning stages. I will have to store these tires till then, probably 2 or more years. My question is should I store them with air in or deflated.
Can you lay them flat? It's not good idea to store them with air in the tires because flat-spotting can occur over time. After time passes and you mount them, they may ride harsh due to internal belt separation, and you'll have a permanent flat spot on the tire. This doesn't always happen though.
Thanks for the reply. They are laying flat in an unheated shed out of direct sunlight. How long will tires last in storage? I know I have used tires that have sat around outside for years and got some use out of them. I have farm machinery with tires on that are twenty or more years old, and are still going strong.
I don't know how they will last in storage, and I know tractor tires are different. It might have something to do with the harder rubber compound, and the fact that some tractor tires have anti-freeze in them.
grease them up with armour all to keep them from drying out.i do it to my quad and bike every winter and don't have any problems with splitting rubber.
