Was wondering how many people look or will bend down to pick up misc. metals(copper, brass, alm.)? Finally took in 1 of my stashes this weekend. After waiting along time for the price to go up.And a nice pay day of $825.00. Now all I have todo is clean stash #2 About a ton of #1 copper at .90 a pound. Any other scrappers out here?
I've been known to dumpster dive at a custom woodworking shop. The pieces of wood they throw out as scrap are big enough to keep me in project material for years.
My brother has a small junk yard,so I do it on a regular basis. All those small pieces add up .When the scraps are in small piles,it makes it easier to find that part that you might have to run to the parts store for also.
I scrap what ever I can get my hands on. I know a guy that comes into where I work but from what I hear heas a schister with money and he wants me to scrap out for him a D8 Cat Dozer, 10 ton Tow Motor, 5 ton cap tandem axle chevy dump truck, giant road greador. But the hook is he wants HALF of the money and he wants me to pay for torch gas, fuel and any other expences. (I think hes trying to pull something over on me because im a kid) But I only have a 99 stepside ranger for a truck right now because my big truck is torn appart. My dads buddy has a low boy tractor trailer and would have helped me haul it but once I told him who had the stuff he said no because the guy had riped him off in the past. I think ill only do it if I can have all of the money from the stuff. What do you think

I think I would suggest to him that you would split the profit from it with him after expences.Sounds like you might be doing a lot of cutting on thick metal, which is a big expence.I would also think he should help you as there is going to be a lot of heavy pieces to move around.Sounds like he wants you to do the hard part, along with covering the overhead.Doesn't sound like a good deal for you.IMO.
The nice thing about scrap collecting is the aluminum and copper add up, don't take up much space, and you don't have to feed them. The bad thing is when you hit your pile with the lawnmower.
Everyone here in the Apt. Complex brings me what they were going to throw away also.
I can successfully fill a 13 gallon trash bag in about 5 days with crushed aliminum cans.
im always picking up junk... my latest thing is with the price of light iron when coming home with a half empty truck ive been picking up old appliances on the street and gettting a tank of gas out of it.. i dont drive out of my way just in my travels ive been picking up stuff. i figure hey its clean honest money why not lol and it aggravates the old lady if i bring the truck home with this stuff on it lol
when i was just out of highschool and jobless and broke i made quite a little living scraping out, I made more money behind tire shops beacuse alumin rims at 49c a pound. plus my electrian buudy saves short scrap copper. never made much off appliances like 2 bucks a piece.
In college the end of the semester was the best time. People would get rid of all kinds of stuff, like old computers, small appliances, and bikes. Computers - I'd take whatever parts I could use off (usually not much if anything) and sell the rest as/is for $15-$25. Bikes could be fixed up and sold easily with parts from abandoned/junked bikes that were lying around. I sold for under $20.
I do scrap trees. If I see a nice hardwood llike a oak sitting by the curb for disposal, I turn it into firewood and sell it in the fall. Most tree services in the Atlanta GA area just cut them up into four foot chunks and leave it for the free city pick up.
I use to do scrap metal and newspaper (when it was $110 a ton!) too.
I scrap all the time.
I cleaned the yard this year took over 15,000lbs of scrap iron to the scales.
I STILL have alot to do too
with car sheatmetal @ 1.5¢ a pound
rusted/general scrap iron @2.5¢ a pound
and good steel, castiron/non-rusted/beams/pipes @ 3.5¢ a pound its a good time to clean
