Help Needed.. How do i remove the Fan Clutch from the water pump?
Fan Clutch screws directly to water pump shaft. How do i keep whole
assembly from spinning, and do i turn clock-wise for removal?
B3000 94 3.0L V6... Also does the '94 have the same water pump
removal problem with the AC/power steering/tensioner brackets as
the 1992? thank you, Rick

 

It is a left-handed thread. There is a "Ford fan clutch wrench" that you can borrow from some parts stores. It's simply a thin, 1-1/18" (I think) open end with a handle long enough that you might be able to crack the nut by quickly (Sharply? Briskly? I dunno.) loosening it. (Yes, TWB clockwise.) Usually the friction of the belt is enough to keep the shaft from turning. If not, and you've got a strap wrench, remove the belt and strap it. You might jam a couple of the 10mm bolts that secure the pulley with a flat-edged pry bar, but it's tough to find something that fits in that space. If you have to back out a couple of the bolts (If, perhaps, you had to use a screwdriver.) I'd get a couple longer bolts (But no too much longer; space is tight!) to temporarily replace the originals 'cause you might bend 'em.

 

I have not done it on my Ranger yet, but when I changed them on some other cars I used 2 wrenches to get the bolts free. 1 wrench loosens and the other holds the clutch in place. On really tight nuts I used a big wrench to hold the fan in 1 place. But that is on metal fan blades, I think yours are plastic. Be careful with that method. Hope this helps.

 

its a reverse rotation serpintine pump.unscrew counterclockwise.get the tool it has 2 wrenches 1 for the fan 1 for the 4 bolt pulley.to hard to do it with out tool

 

I'm also currently looking at removing my factory fan clutch. I've seen all the tools they recommend to hold the pulley, but I can't see how any of them would work for mine. There isn't any area for something to hook on to the pulley. Unfortuneatly the belt slips, and doesn't hold the pulley. I'm going to try longer 10 MM bolts with a pry bar, and see if that works.
