Bigger Cam

Hello all. Looking to pick some brain's out here.. Let me tell you what I am working with first. 1977 ford ranchero, 400/ c6. The motor only has about 1000 miles since the complete rebuild. 400 .40 over bore, stock compression, stock heads, hooker super comp headers, edelbrock carb, intake, and cam. msd billit dizy, with the box. The motor runs very well, but I am looking for a bit more cam, one with maybe a bit more attitude! The rear end is stock, and the trans has just been rebuilt also with b@m shift kit. As I said, the thing runs good and strong as is, but I would like to get a bit more out of it without and further mods.............Thanks PS no smog crap on this car.......

A little more info needed.

What do you want to do with the vehicle?

High rpm performance or torque off the line in town?

Daily or weekend driver?

Does distributor have vac advance?

What compression exactly?

Thanks for the question.....the car is used mainly on the weekends, street drivin, some highway, Looking for more torque, and over all performance. yes dizzy has vc. advance, and I believe comp ratio is 8.5. Just looking for a bit more overall performance. I thought that the edelbrock cam would be stronger, and have a bit of an attitude to it.......Thanks Bill

I think I'd try a bit more rear gear. It might have 2.73's, you didn't mention the ratio. I'd try 3.89 or 4.10 to liven it up before I tore the motor apart.
