It allows you to raise the idle speed of your vehicle. It's a nice feature if you live in a cold climate and start your truck to "warm up" in the winter. An idling diesel will never really warm up, but this prevents wet stacking (fuel getting into the oil).
You're a busy guy with all these mods! Just trying to figure out what to do first?
When I ordered my truck I purchased the aux idle control. I love it.I tow my boat across the desert during the summer and when i pull into Parker AZ. I fill the boat up and with my dog in the truck I idle it up to about 1500 rpm and leave the a/c on, when i get back into the truck it's nice and cool inside and the dog is not drooling all over the interior.
so the AIC basically works just like someone sitting in the truck with their foot on the throttle, am i correct? how big of range is there to adjust from( rpm wise )? what should a guy keep it at? do you have to shut it off when your driving? what happens if you leave it on while driving?
Yes, it works like someone holding down the accelerator. You shouldn't have it on when driving. You adjust the rpm depending on the situation. In cold weather you would want to have it turned up higher than warm if you're trying to keep EGT's up to prevent wet stacking. If you're running an accessory like A/C adjust until you get the desired power. I have no idea what would happen if you left it on when driving.
lrb, the link I gave was for a homemade setup and I'm not sure you have to have the parking brake on with it. Do you have the Ford AIC or did you get another unit?
Back in 2000 when I ordered the truck,it was an option that I wanted, and I believe I paid about $200.00 for it. It has a bracket that mounts under the dash and plugs right in.Very easy to install.
