opinions and suggestions on this 400 set up

i have a ford 400 i am building... im thinkin of the mods:

Bored .30

Heads milled .010(whats the safest amout i can go)(doesn't matter if i have to mill the intake)

TWR pistons 427P

Weiand 8010 intake

Comp cam 268H (suggestions)

Scorpion roller rocker arms

Rebuilt heads ... http://cylheads.com/ford-bronco-1978-engines---HD144013.html(suggested performance mods) already porting

1" carb spacer

Milodon high flow water pump

Holley electric fuel pump

i have to carbs an edelbrock carb and holley carb. don't know the specs for the holley carb cam off a 1/4 mustang engine
and the edelbrock is a 600cfm performance series

any suggestions would be great and also opinions.

I think the heads you are looking at are 4V heads at least some of the castings are anyway... Unless you want to use a 3K stall converter in a truck you want 2V heads... The 4V heads like to run 7K RPMs or more to use the ports... Weiand makes a good 4 barrel intake for the 2V heads. With your carb and application a good RV cam and the above seems right. Not sure about the Boring or the milling. I only do that to correct things that are incorrect to begin with. No real gain unless it needs done...

Not sure who makes them but there are also port stuffers you can get for the 4V heads. That would work to reduce RPM requirements as well..

to find out what holley you have look on the air horn for the word "list" and you will see a fouir digit number after that. With that number you can go to holley's web site and find out all about it.

the 4V heads are a lot better on a 400 cube than on a 351, where they got their bad rap. the port stuffers would further improve the 4V's manners. i think the Parker Funnel Web guy has the port stuffers too. http://www.madhatterracing.com/centerframe.htm
to run 4V's on a 400 you'd need intake spacers and maybe a distributor spacer depending on your intake, or it may be mandatory regardless of intake choice. to run the port stuffers you would need to match the intake and spacers by raising the floor of the runners to match the stuffers. the results are prolly worth the effort, if this is your goal? the 268H is on the small side for such a set-up, and not exhaust biased like the 4V's prefer. it's not a bad choice for a 2V engine, i've run it in a 351C and liked it so much i bought the company. well i would buy it.

Thanks for the link... I was wondering who made and where I could get the port stuffers... Any idea how much port vol they take away from the heads? I hear good things about the Parker Funnel Web too if you can get it under or through your hood...
