while my truck is down for fuel troubles, I ended up changeing the transmission filter and fluid. How much extra Mercon do I need to put in when there is a transmission cooler? I alread put in the 4 and 1/2 qts that the book says to put. I think what I will do is to add the fluid as needed when I do get the thing running. Beings that the engine needs to be running and up to temp when the fluid is checked.
That is a really good question! I don't know but I would guess that it would be about one extra quart.I have the largest tru-cool max and I would bet that even with the new cooler lines it holds no more than that.
I will add a little extra fluid. I only added 4 qts when I put the fluid. I bought 7 qts and I have 3 unopened sitting in the front seat. I figure that if I add a 5th that it will not over fill it.
But on the other hand, I might as well wait tillI get it up and running again and check and add the fluid the proper way, while the engine is running.
The pan that I pulled off won't hold 24 qts. I know 24 qts didn't drain out then I took my Dextron shower. Well, I was a little low, but I don't think I was 5 gallons low.
You should have drained the tq converter. You'll need about 12-14 qts this way. Since you changed the filter you might want to take it to a shop and have the fluid flushed. 4 qts really isn't a good service.
20007.3l 4x4 It took me 20 quarts to FLUSH and refill the tranny fluid. I flushed out about 2 quarts, so my truck holds about 18, dead on with the article I read about changing/flushing the transmission.
