Truck surges under power. Does anyone else have this problem? The truck has about 500 miles on it. It is a F-250 04' 4x4 4-Door 6.0. It acts like I am feathering the gas pedal when accelerating.
No, i have not pulled over and restarted. It does it all the time. When the truck is cold it does it then when it warms up it is not as bad, but you can feel and hear it every time you drive it. I will take it to the dealer next week.
Then i will post what they say about it.

In the mean time try rebooting the system....i.e. stop and restart.
What I have seen is once you do that, itwill not happen again until you turn the motor off.
I had it and it took them a month and a half going in and out of the dealer to fix. It would only do it to me on the very 1st start of the day (cold start), or if I didn't drive it for about 5 hours. Took me 4 visits to dealer to nail it down. It would go away once the engine was warm and I pulled over to the side of the road and restarted. I got sick of doing this every morning as you can imagine! They finally fixed it by replacing the EBP sensor. The codes it was kicking off were B-1352, U-1027, U-1058, U-1059 U-1262, U-2016, P0603, P02263 and P02662. Check engine light would come on intermittently. Only problem I have had with the truck - build 05/03 16,000 miles.
Thanks for the info, Adjordje. That sounds like what it is doing. I will print out this page and take it to the dealer. Maybe that is what is wrong with mine.
I've got the same problem. Worse when it's cold, but there almost all the time. Mine seems to be more of a sound than actual surging. I don't really feel it so much as hear it. Other than this, the truck runs great. No check engine light or other issues. I’m getting about 19.5 MPG hwy. with no load and near 15 pulling a 4K lb. trailer. In fact, the reason I’ve delayed taking it back for the surging is my fear they’ll hurt my mileage. But I can’t tolerate it any longer and plan on taking it to the dealer this week. I’ll update this post with the results.
Funny thing about reading this thread today. My surging was much worse today then its ever been. I did what Tim suggested with pulling over, shutting off the truck , re-starting it and wouldn't ya know, the surging cleared right up. Damn computers !!!!
Tim,
This list that you are compiling, what are you planning to do with it? Do you have a direct line to the power train group? Are you possibly an Engineer in the power train group? Its killing me to know :-)
Cool, Id love to hear about your aerospace endeavors. On a side note, wouldn't it be great if Ford Power train got ahold of some of this info? I'll have to look into my black book to see if I have some contacts at ford that could pass such info on. Most of the contacts I have are body and exterior.

Shocky, you definately have the exact same symptoms that I had. Tell your dealer to call the hotline unless you got a real good mechanic there because the first two time I brought it in, they looked at me like i was nuts. I had to leave the truck overnight there and then they put it on the dyno first thing in the morning and they called me and admitted they saw the problem I was talking about. I know the mechanic never saw this problem until I came in, so it probably does not happen often. It took 4 attempts to fix it as well. They replaced teh VGT selenoid thinking it was that at first. They finally did get it down to the EBP sensor which was sticking open (or closed I dunno which). The hotline knows what this problem is now cause they did finally figure it out for me. Hopefully they can fix it in a few hours for you but who knows, it may be something completely different. It woun't affect the mileage at all either. I'm still 14 city 20 hwy as it always has been since I got the rig.
I don't know if you guys also have this symptom, but when I had the problem, I would come down to an idle at a stop light, and the truck would get completely quiet - could barely hear the engine. Once you hit the pedal, after you hit around 1200 RPM, the engine sound would be normal again. There was no loss of power, but it was just freaky cause I could not hear the engine at all at idle/sub-1200 rpm.
