First I'd like to say I appreciate this info base. I thought that I had finally found a truck a Ford F350 4x4 6.0L Auto that could replace my 1984 Chevy 1 ton 4x4 SRW manual (tired of shifting). Then A guy at work said that I should try this web site. It sounds like Ford finally made a good trans and I thought A good diesel. I am now a little worried about spending $40K or more after reading about all the problems. I realize happy people don't complain. I'd never heard of a Flash and the way Ford treats it's loyal customers till now.
I like the present SD trucks, I read what 04F350 wrote about the changes for 05. Will it be a better truck, less engine problems, is a mono-beam axle and coil spring front end better? I don't mind A little rough ride as long as the truck is strong. Also jeb wrote something about pilot injection, what is that he is talking about. I have many more questions, but too long already. And I can't pick a color. I could use some encouraging words. Thanks in advance
I've had my share of "issues" with my rig (1/03)..But these really are great performing trucks, georgous for sure, and tough too.. Like floating on a rocket driven pillow at 70MPH.. Yes,, Ford is working on the problem children, and I've done my share of "bitching" about my truck, but I wouldn't want anything else at this point.. Would I buy an early build again if I had no choice.. Don't know.. Many early owners are very please with the "old timers" and have had no problems.. Mine has had 2 rear mains (hardly leaking at all but!!!) and I wanted zero leaks or weeping parts as it should be!!.. Mine has always run GREAT, and the other problems were just annoying, but not threatening.. Although my starter was dieing and had to be replaced.. Could happen to any vehicle/manufacturer.. My dealer "offered" to let me take my truck home for the weekend, (Wow) before I bought it, and may have been a deciding factor for me to wait, or shop out a later build, but my issues didn't develope till about 200/300 miles or so anyway.. Go on the longest test ride you can to be sure.. Look it over good.. I looked at it like this....If I/you get a good of enough of a deal at the point of sale, and it don't work out, then I'll cut it loose for a later model.. Maybe an 05.. Have to get a look/drive and make a choice,, if and then.. Plus,, most likely the price will be higher, should you wait.. There will always be disaster stories with all makes and models, Diesel and Gas..
Does Ford know that if they cut the price of their trucks in half, it wouldn't be such a hard decision to make!!!!
I do know this... If Ford would recognize and own up to the fact that some owners and trucks, are and will be experiencing some trouble because of engineering/design flaws, and OFFER to REALLY stand behind what they sold.. The fears and concerns would vanish..................................>
