I have a #3 miss-fire on a 97 Expedition EB 5.4 throttle body. I have replaced plugs "Bosch Plat." + coil pack + pcv valve with no luck, now I'm told this coud be a piston sensor in the back of the motor and would need to pull the intake off...
Has anyone had to do this before, that may give me some idea if this is right?
I would appreciate any feedback I can get on this...
I've seen where a LOT of people have problems with the Bosch plugs....could be as simple as that. Otherwise, I don't know what a piston sensor is....never heard of anyone with that problem.
Well I'm like you , so I went to advance and ask them about a "cam sensor" and they said they didn't have one in stock but could get one. He looked it up on the computor and it was around $13.0
The 5.4L sensor is suppose to be located on the firewall down past the throttle body, and have to take the intake off to get to it.
I have no idea if this is correct or not, my brotherinlaw say's he has known of the sensor, but didn't know where it was located.
Advance say's it can cause a missfire reading, and make the engine run bad and skip under pull.
Maybe someone can help me out here I'd like to know the truth.
cobrah, yes, you'll have to remove the compressor to access the CKP sensor. But before going through all this trouble, I'd recommend changing the spark plug and maybe swapping a COP. I've never heard anybody mention a bad CKP or CMP sensor.
