1998 f-150 5spd and im going from 3.55's to 4.10's. i know the fronts an 8.8 reverse rotation but my question is wether or not ill need a carrier for the front. i know you did in the danas. and if i do,why? why wouldnt i be able to use the current carrier?
I don't know where (or if) the carrier break occurs in the 8.8, but on some axles it's 4.10 and down, 4.56 and up. When I had my reverse rotation Dana 60 front done, I went from 3.55 to 4.56 and did not need a new carrier. Didn't need one on the rear 10.25" axle either. I don't know about the new F150's but the older ones had 8.8 in the rear and Dana 44 TTB in the front.
1997 to 2003 F-150's use an 8.8 Visteon reverse rotation center section in the front. I wouldn't really call it an axle. I don't know what the 2004's use yet. Have not had a chance to check them out. I would assume that the 2004 F-150's still use the 8.8. I just know that they set them up a little bit differently with the rack and pinion steering.

Randy's pinion will give you a breakdown of everything you need.
I have a Dana 44 front and an 8.8 in the rear. Going from 3.55's to anything above 4:00 will cause you to need a carrier. If you put in a locker you won't need the carrier. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.
