ring and pinion numbers

ring and pinion numbers

can anyone decifer this number E5TW-BA-11-39-5BB i know it is 3.54 ratio but is it a 10.25 or 10.5

E5 means 1985 right so wouldnt that mean it is a 10.25 because the 10.5 didnt come out until the late 90's right? Or do i have no clue what im talkoing about

I don't know what all the # means, but you're right, the 10.5" didn't come out untill the new SuperDuty trucks came out around '99.

It's definitely a 10.25 as Ford didn't use the 10.5 until 1999. I'll have to look on the rest.

That number looks a lot like a Dana-Spicer number which would be a 10.2. Maybe a Dana 60 if its single wheels or Dana 70 if dual wheels.

thats the problem i dont know whast it came out of its just the r+p no housiond or axles or any thing else but the guy that has it says he thought it was a sterling but who knows

If it is for sure a 3.54 instead of a 3.55 it is probably a dana. Dana also puts the build date right on the ring and pinion. Can't remember if ford does or not. If the shock towers clamp on with a big U-bolt it is a ford if they are welded on it is a dana.
