I know my Expedition has a hook up for a DVD player because it's got a cover plate in the headliner. But, I need to pull the plate off and see if the wiring harness is there?
If there is a cover plate for a DVD there someone stole it out of there before you bought it. I have never ever seen a cover plate in a headliner for a DVD player on ANY Expedition unless its some regional package not avaliable here.. What year is your vehicle by the way?
It's a 1997 EB 4x4 Expy. We just bought it in Tulsa a few weeks ago. I notice you are in Lawton, so we are in the same region.
The cover plate matches the interior and headliner perfectly. It sure looks like it belongs, like maybe it was pre-wired for a DVD player. I've never even removed the cover yet.
I'll take and post some pics tomorrow so you can see what it looks like.
Cool, Id like to see that. The 97 never came equipped with DVD. The only thing you could get up till about 2002 was overhead VCR screen with a VCR mounted in the console. There is a place where overhead rear AC controls mount behind the overhead console on certain models.
I have a 99 Expy Eddie Bauer with a factory sunroof and there is a removable cover plate about 1 foot behind the sunroof and it matches the headliner/interior as well. I have been wondering what that is for as well. I will try to attach a picture in this message or a following message.

That looks like an access plate to the sunroof motor, for manually closing the sunroof in an emergency situation when you have a power fault and cant close it electonically.
Thanks, that sounds like a logical answer. I figured that it was too far back for a DVD player mount, especially with the sunroof getting in the way.

Homer is correct. I should have figured that out considering that we've got a sunroof! I pulled the plate back far enough to peep in and see a motor in there.
Darn, I was thinking that was a hook up for a video device. Here's the pic I took this morning of the cover plate... plus a few misc. pics while I was at it.
I saw an interesting DVD player unit the other day on a car that came in the dealership for service. It was a fully contained unit with speakers built in, screen and all that simply hangs off the back of the front seat. Not exactly custom but would transfer from vehicle to vehicle nicely. One thing I saw as kinda sorry is people coming in for thier 1500.00 dealer installed overhead DVD, only to have to give it up at trade in time. They dont get much for it.
Thanks. It's a sonic blue '03 SVT Cobra. We have fun with it, but it doesn't get out of the garage much. I dyno'd her about a month ago and she put down 387 RWHP and 381 RWTQ, and that's bone stock.
Sorry about my misunderstanding on the plate in the roof. I just assumed that was there for a DVD player...

Hey guys... I have a 97 with sunroof also. I just installed a DVD monitor overhead in my Expy. I found that the access cover is too far to the rear for comfortable viewing from the second row. I had to make a mount that fits on the rail supports for the sunroof to hold the monitor. This requires the removal of the headliner(complete!) This is a real PITA! It's not really that hard to do, but there are alot of peices to remove. Mine works great, I just returned from a 2000 mile+ trip to MA and it works great!

Do you have pictures of your install? Also, where did you buy your DVD player, cost, etc.? Thanks!!
Don't have any pics yet. It is a Questar DVD unit. They sell it at Circuit City and Walmart online. It was around $200. It has a great picture and with the headphones it sounds fantastic! The head unit and the screen are seperate. I mounted the head unit under the passenger seat on a bracket that I built. I'll take some pictures and post them as soon as I can.
