gas gage

i have a 1966 ford truck on a 76 frame i put all new wiring in it but my gas gage pegs past full when i hook it up the gas tank is behind the seat and i put a new sending unit in can eny one help me thenks

I would bet that the fuel sending unit wire is being grounded someplace. Does the gauge go from empty to full as soon as you hook up the tank?

I'm wondering if there should be an instrument voltage regulator to limit the amount of current to the guage. On 76 trucks the guage is not connected directly to 12V. I don't know if the same is true for 66 trucks.
