I have a 92 F-150 xlt. Everytime I connect the battery the lights come on even with the switch off, so I removed the head light switch and it still happens. Even with the ignition switch off it does it. Also it sounds like its running a pump in the transmission so I unplugged the wires to the tranny to trouble shoot before it ran the battery down. I have seen no coroded wires or any exposed wires grounding out. I have about disassembled the entire truck to find the problem. So I decided to come here and ask for help. Hope I'm in the right place.
The pump running noise is probably the relay for the elect fuel pump. It's located under the hood, l/h side just behind the air filter box. Give it a tap and see if it stops. If it not unplug it and see if it stops. If either works, replace the relay.
I was looking at my schematics, check you high beam switch, click off and on and see if light go out. There is a seperate power wire for the high beam side that does not route through the dash switch. Hope that works.
the noise i heard was actually in the transmission. I crawled all around the truck to find the noise using my stethescope and my ears and when i unhooked the harnes on the drivers side of the tranny it quit, at first i wondered if the tranny had an electric pump but i have never heard of that before, thank you for your response will double check that relay
good news, dummy me didnt notice hazard switch was on so lights back to normal, now to figure out the humming noise in tranny when power is connected, i get an ERROR.3 in odometer when switch is on , will not turn over with switch or crossing the solenoid, there is a distinct humming in the transmission when power is connected
yea, took starter off, tried testing it it seems bad so taking it to get it tested. Humming noise stopped though when i shifted the gears into neutral. Its just the weirdest thing i ever heard. I appreciate the help from you all, Have a Happy Easter.
