I've just installed a keyless and remote start system and I'm not real sure if I got the right wire for the tach input. It calls for a wire that is white with a pink stripe at the firewall. My problem is that everything all work that is suppose to but I can't get the remote start to work. I bought this system from Ford which is for a 2001 F-250 PSD. Any info regarding where a good place to connect to the tach wire would be appreciated.
Check under the dash to the right edge of the removable panel. There are some wires labeled customer access or something taped to the diagnostic port harness. There are 4 firewall passthrough wires and an ignition hot wire. There may also be a tach wire.
Aaron.
I've seen the wires you are refering to and I believe that those are for electric brake controllers. Those wires come out on the outside of the firewall just behind the fuse box as they are the same colors. I appreciate the help as any is a big help just have to keep digging.
Aaron, you are right. I remember the other wires you refering to, now I need to check the out the wires to see if they are it. Can't do it now as it is raining like crazy now and I don't have a big enough garage to get into. By the way, I'm in northern cal. which is getting a lot of rain and hopefully a lot of snow in the mountains. Can't wait to go snowmobiling and test my new (to me) 4-wheel drive pickup.
Yeah I hear ya. The snow level is suppose to start dropping tonight from 7000 to 4000 so maybe you guys will get the same. Do you know anything about the keyless entry and the remote start system for the diesel? When I push and hold the start button the siren will chirp four times and then nothing will happen. I checked the output for the ignition off the controller and nothing comes up. I also double check the wiring and everything is where it's suppose to be. Everything else works. With the exception of tach wire which if the instructions are right it's in the right place. Any help is appreciated.. Rob
Is there some kind of timed delay for the glowplugs that might not be working or something. I don't know anything about those systems. I am keeping your post near the top of the page though. :7
Aaron.
Aaron, you can set the controller for either a second delay or fifteen seconds. The fifteen seconds is programed right now and that is for the glow plugs, but I can't get even the ignition to activate. When you push and hold the start button it should turn on the ignition and then activate the starter after fifteen seconds. Got snow yet??? With you living in Montana you must have snowmobiles.Rob
What is the tach wire used for. I think you could connect it to nothing and it wouldn't stop the ignition from turning on. Again I really don't know anyting about these systems. No snowmobiles. I do ski though is that worth anything?
Aaron.
:-staun You live in some of the best riding areas and no sleds!!?? Oh well, I use to ski but I haven't skiied in 25 years and I liked it.
The tach wire I believe is used to register RPM's with the controller as to disingage the starter after the engine starts,I think. Rob
I double checked all the power leads and they all read the way the instructions say. I think that I'll go by ford and see if they might have some ideas. Maybe tomorrow. At least everything else works, the keyless, alarm, dome light. The headlights come when you hold the lock button.

I have a 2001 Ford F-250 PSSD and I purchase a aftermarket remote start, one thing I figured out is the ground has to be very good, the stater wire connection is in the ignition harness for our year model it’s red and light blue, you can also get to the “tach wire in the back of the instrument cluster. Which is probably way easier than the wiring cluster in the firewall. Let me know if this helps. Also I used t-connector crimps but during the process I realized wires are heavy duty wrapped so a little slice of the coating will give you a better connection than just a crimp splice. Bulldogsecurity.com has free wiring diagrams pdf. It say we shouldn’t use the tach wire but I did to prevent “over crank” during remote stating.
