Hello all. I purchased a set of Ford OEM factory alloy wheels (the type with rivets) that were in need of help. They had spots/blemishes where the clearcoat was coming off and they didn't look so hot. So with a lot of patience and elbow grease, I removed the clear coat with some stuff called "Zip Strip" that I got at my local hardware store along with some steel wool. Now that I have the clear coat off and one of them polished out, (it looks good too!), I'm wondering if I shouldn't maybe get a clearcoat applied to them so I don't have to polish them as often.
Question is, what kind of clearcoat would you all recommend? Something that won't look or turn yellow, if you know what I mean. I'm sure a body shop could help me, but I don't wanna get screwed by them recommending something expensive if there is something reasonably/better priced.
Zero Rust makes a product called Crystal Coat. It's a single stage clear coat that comes in a rattle can. Although it is used as topcoat for their Zero Rust paint, it has been used as a clear coat on aluminum wheels.
I have the email address of a ZR rep that has used it on his own wheels. If you are interested in chatting with him, send me some email and I'll pass along his email address.
